The latest figures released by the World Health Organization show that nearly 1/4 of the world's population suffers from insomnia. Insomnia has become the world's fourth largest disease, and by 2020 it may become the second largest disease after heart disease. Lack of sleep can reduce the body's immunity, reduce the ability to fight and recover from diseases, and induce the onset of existing diseases, such as cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and hypertension. In severe cases, it can induce or aggravate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, and even suicide.
The World Health Organization has listed insomnia as the number one threat to women's health. Long-term insomnia causes many women to have dull complexions, dry skin, increased pigmentation wrinkles, menstrual disorders, and can easily lead to or aggravate diseases such as depression.
According to TCM, there are four main causes of insomnia, namely imbalance of Yin and Yang, disharmony between heart and kidney, disharmony between liver and stomach, and deficiency of both heart and spleen. Of them, imbalance of Yin and Yang is a the common one, which is caused by irregular work and rest. Disharmony between heart and kidney is caused by visceral diseases, disharmony between liver and stomach is generally caused by indigestion, and deficiency of both heart and spleen means that the circulation of qi and blood is not smooth.
1. Imbalance of Yin and Yang - It is similar to endocrine imbalance in Western medicine. Insomnia caused by this condition is generally caused by long-term unhealthy living habits and irregular work and rest.
2. Disharmony between the heart and kidney - It is also a common cause of insomnia. This situation is usually caused by disorder with the internal organs, and it is necessary to regulate the heart and kidney in time to help the body's metabolism.
3. Liver-stomach disharmony - In TCM, indigestion is liver-stomach disharmony. Indigestion can cause nerve abnormalities. Some patients will suffer from neurasthenia, and some patients will have overexcited nerves. Overexcited patients will suffer from insomnia.
4. Deficiency of the heart and spleen - Deficiency of the heart and spleen is caused by poor circulation of Qi and blood, which requires taking blood-activating decoctions to regulate this situation. It is also one of the common causes of insomnia.
Western medicine generally has a quick effect in treating insomnia, but it is prone to relapse. 70% of insomnia patients who take sedatives and other drugs are addicted to the drugs. More than 50% of them experience various reactions such as restless sleep, dizziness, headache, irritability, dry mouth, bitter mouth, daytime drowsiness, palpitations, chest tightness, and sweating after taking the drugs for weeks or months. However, since nearly 70% of patients have formed drug dependence, they will not be able to sleep all night once they stop taking sedatives and hypnotics. They want to get rid of them but cannot. If they continue to take them, the side effects will be more obvious and the patients will suffer extremely.
TCM believes that regulating the five internal organs is the key to cure insomnia! The treatment of insomnia can be divided into three steps. The first is to calm the nerve, cinnabar, magnet, dragon bone, oyster in TCM can all do it . However, this process mainly treats the symptoms. Then, TCM will start to treat the root. For those who have strong heart fire, we need to help clear the heart fire; those who have insufficient blood in the heart and liver need to replenish blood; those who have kidney essence deficiency need to replenish the kidney. Although the effect is slow, it can cure insomnia more safely and fundamentally.
